Strategic foresight as a working methodology.

EGGS Part of Sopra Steria has employed strategic foresight in this project, a methodology that enables us not only to react to the future but to actively shape it. What kind of future do we envision, how can we reach that vision, and how can we avoid an undesirable future? Strategic foresight provides us with insights, understanding, inspiration, and motivation to shape the future rather than just letting it unfold. It’s not about predicting the future; instead, it involves working with scenarios of possible futures based on the knowledge we have today. This approach allows us to make decisions today that will influence our tomorrow as we desire.

Data-driven foresight enables us to identify patterns and trends through signal analysis, allowing us to distinguish emerging changes in behaviors, new business models, and innovative services. By concentrating on key areas essential for forthcoming transformations, we can develop detailed scenarios that reflect potential futures. One effective method for creating these scenarios is through the use of future prototypes.

Discovery Phase
This phase focuses on analyzing the environment to identify emerging trends and societal changes. By examining megatrends and "weak signals," such as new technologies and cultural behaviors, we establish a common understanding during a signal-scouting workshop that addresses mobility and the aging population.

Exploration Phase
We revisit the identified signals and map changes from social, technological, ecological, economic, and political perspectives. This analysis informs our scenario workshop, where we transform signals into articulated future scenarios and initial artifact concepts, which will be further developed with the target audience.

Develop & Experience Phase
In this stage, we collaboratively create a narrative and environment for our envisioned future, incorporating artifacts and services. We invite the target audience to engage with the future prototype, providing feedback that will refine our innovation concepts. Key activities include developing trigger materials and conducting workshops to further develop artifacts in collaboration with the audience. EGGS Part of Sopra Steria will finalize the future prototype, which will be exhibited in Lidingö City Hall. This allows visitors to experience the future and reflect on their experiences, with feedback collected for evaluation.

Evaluation Phase
The exhibition process will be assessed to gather insights. In January 2025, we will showcase our future prototype at a vernissage hosted by Vinnova alongside other funded projects.
