The project "Future mobility solutions for an aging population" envisions a future in 2035 where elderly individuals, regardless of physical or cognitive abilities, can move freely, remain independent and live actively at home for longer.
The project use strategic foresight and speculative design methods to explore the gaps between public transport, paratransit services, personal assistance and rides from family members. What could exist here? What are the needs, and what future solutions could address them? The project involves future exploration, scenario building, prototyping, and interaction with seniors to explore and co-create future mobility innovations.
Welcome to 2035, where all citizens can move freely in society regardless of physical ability.
What if you could experience the same mobility and freedom as you age?
In our culture, we associate freedom with movement – being able to walk, run, cycle, drive, and remain independent. But what happens when that freedom gradually fades? When your body no longer responds as it once did, and you suddenly face a transition you weren’t prepared for?
Together with designers, artists, experts, and Lidingö residents, the City of Lidingö has created future prototypes that challenge our ideas about how we want society to look in the future. The goal is to enable more people to live at home longer while maintaining their quality of life.
These future prototypes will be showcased in the exhibition The Boundaries of Freedom, held from December 5–9 in the entrance hall of Lidingö City Hall. Here, you can experience the future as a 94-year-old, still mobile and equipped with tools to stay active. Through this experience, we aim to spark a dialogue about aging and mobility.
